Dusty Simington started cutting hair at 15.
His first client was himself.
"I have five sisters, and one day they dragged me to the hottest salon in town," Dusty recalls. "The place was like a club. I was instantly hooked. I studied how the stylists were cutting, and when I got home, I picked up a pair of scissors and cut my own hair, better than they had."
"Right away, I had this knack and understanding of hair texture and how to cut. The next thing I knew, I was cutting all of my sisters' hair, their friends, people in our neighborhood. That was it for me. I knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I was a hairstylist."
Today, Dusty isn't just one of California's most sought-after stylists, he also has been named Master Stylist of the Year by the North American Hairstyling Awards — the styling industry's equivalent of winning an Academy Award.
His Salon Gregorie's in Newport Beach is the largest independent salon in the Western United States and boasts a clientele that reads like a who's who list of Hollywood celebrities. They come to Dusty because they know every clip, snip and flip will be flawless. "I'm obsessed with perfection," he says. "When you're in my chair, you are the only person in my life at that time."
It's with the same commitment to perfection that Dusty created the products in the Kronos hair care line. "I see and hear firsthand the problems my clients have when their hair ages," Dusty says. "But it's not just my older customers – even younger ones have aged their hair way beyond its years with lots of styling and by using the wrong products. I looked for products that could address all their concerns, but no product did it all."
